Re: Rear-end gear ratios

I believe this method only works with a sure grip rear end- because of the spider gears in a non-posi. You can use this method if both tires are on the ground and you roll it straight ahead( or back)......................MO.............sw iowa ----- Original Message ----- From: "Herb" <zephyr9900@xxxxxxxxxxx>

I can tell you a EWAG (Educated Wild A$$ Guess) or probably just a WAG way
of telling. Lift the rear off the ground & rotate a tire one complete turn
and count the rotations of the drive shaft and keep track at the end. Three
& 1/4 turns is 3.23. Three & 1/2 turns is 3.55. Four & 1/2 is 4.56 and so
on and so on! I hope this helps. Unless it has been worked on or rusted
off, it should have a tag on it somewhere with the ratio on it.

I am curious what the gear ratio is for the rear-end of my '64 Dodge Polara
500. I can't find anything about that on the window sticker, build-sheet,
tag, etc. It seems like it is around 3:00, and I am sure they didn't have
many choices in the mundane 383 2 bbl. TorqueFlight setup. Anyone know?
