I don't want to dampen Merwin's enthusiasm, 4 speeds are a blast.  If I were
going to use one in a driver, I'd make sure the tires act as a "fuse" and
take the load off the drivetrain.  If you sidestep the clutch, let it spin a
little.

Big difference in torque between a 426 wedge and a 289.

I was thinking about that breakage when I wrote the response.  Probably
spent $5,000 on fixing destroyed drivetrain stuff.   Then I got a good Dana
60 and I was still having starting line launch issues.  Now I run a TF and
go end to end every pass down the track.

I used a 10 1/2 inch unit.

Yeah, and then he broke every part on the car except the glove box door.  :P

4 speeds = fun to cruise but hard on parts.

AFAIK there are two varieties of clutch (Don will know more about this), the
10 1/2" and the 11".  Seems like the 10 1/2" had an aluminum bellhousing
while the 11 was iron?  As long as you keep everything matched I think
you're good.  IIRC (kids are rubbing off on me) not all crankshafts are
machined for throw-out bearings - Don, can you verify?

I used the Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch in my 440 powered '65 Belvedere.
Held up very well and leg effort was not bad at all.

    Having never changed a clutch in a Mopar (plenty of experience in mid
60's Mustangs, though). Is there a choice in pressure plates, either Beck,
Long, G.M.style, and what would you recommend for my '65 383, (soon to be a
wedge 426) Coronet ? Also, will I need a different
flywheel for the '26? I'm wondering about a balance issue.  Merwin
