Re: Over heating

I agree.  You must run a thermostat.  I usually run the 190's in my Mopars.
Seem to preforme better.  If you have a good radiator, belts, water pump and the
correct pulley, and the block is clean, and run at least a 6 bladed fan, Prefer
a 7 but 6 will work just fine. The pulley will determe how fast the water
flows.  Just my 2 cents worth.

Hello,

Just a couple of last comments:

I would not run without a thermostat, the engine needs to come up to
operating temperature.  If you only drive in very warm weather it may
not be that much of an issue however you should be able to cool the
engine with a thermostat.

Not much advantage in going to a 160 degree stat.  Once the engine
temperature is above the full-open temperature of the stat it does not
matter want range stat you have installed.

The high performance stat is worth the money and will give more water
flow.

I believe you said you have a big block radiator, is it the stock core
or has it bee recored?  If it has been recored measure the vertical fins
per inch and compare it with a stock radiator.

As mentioned timing and fuel air ratio all play a part in engine
temperature

The chance if it being an internal problem with your engine is very
unlikely.

More flow beyond the design of the radiator is not always a good thing.
It will cause lower radiator hose problems if it does not have the wire
insert.  Heat transfer relies on a turbulent flow, too high of a flow
rate can push the water through the tubes too fast.

If you are still having a heating problem try calling one of the many
companies that make and sell custom radiators.  It is a real education
talking to a good tech guy who can help you determine the cause of your
problem.

Good Luck

Please address private mail -- mail of interest to only one person -- directly
to that person.  I.e., send parts/car transactions and negotiations as well as
other personal messages only to the intended recipient, not to the Clubhouse
public address. This practice will protect your privacy, reduce the total volume
of mail and fine tune the content signal to Mopar topic.  Thanks!
