Wouldn't be surprised if it was done at the factory.  Mistakes were (are) 
done.

Back in 1957 one of the magazines was testing a new 1957 Oldsmobile, which 
had the name spelled across the grille opening in block letters.  GM's 1957 
models were considered to be "last year's" models in the styling department 
by many, and one worker on the Oldsmobile assembly line thought so, too. 
The name across the front of the test Oldsmobile was spelled - 
O-L-D-D-M-O-B-I-L-E.
