RE: Fickle headlights

I'd put my money on a bad switch. They are easy to come by and not too 
bad to install. I actually have a very slightly used new one if you run 
into any problem getting one.

It could be somewhere in the harness where it passes through the 
firewall or at another connection too but I bet on the switch.
