I'm not sure what your problem might be then. Are you sure you have a solid state regulator? As mentioned by someone else if it has 2 bars on the back it's NOT a solid state regulator. Btw the solid state regulator was originally developed for marine use. All I can tell you is every old Mopar I've owned (and it's been many) have all had that flickering ammeter needle and lights thing until I changed the regulator to the solid sate replacement. Now if your talking about the lights dimming and the needle going to discharge at idle then that's kind of normal too. Mopar alternators are known to not put out enough to keep the battery fully charged at idle especially when you have the car in gear stopped at a light with the headlights and brake lights on. When you step on the gas the needle will go to charge and start flickering as the points in the regulator open and close to regulate the charge. With the solid state regulator the needle will come back to center gradually as the battery comes back to full charge. One other problem you might check is poor battery connections. I've had problems before with those replacement clamp on battery terminals for the end of your cables. I was told that they are only meant to be a temporary fix. If you have those you might try getting new replacement cables.

Dave it's the points in the mechanical voltage regulator that are clicking
on and off because the battery is nearing full charge. Maybe some of you
guys are too young to remember but this was normal back in the day of
mechanical voltage regulators. (God am I that old?) Replacing the VR with a
solid state replacement  (VR706) will end the flickering lights and ammeter
needle. BTW do not use the one that Mopar Performance sells for racing. That
will not shut off at all and will overcharge the battery on a street car.
