Sounds like your steering coupler needs to be rebuilt. There are kits available 
and it's pretty easy. My only problem was getting the pin out of the end of the 
shaft. I never did, and it was in good shape. So I pulled the shaft out of the 
column and put the new parts on from the other end then slid the shaft back in 
place. Of course I had the column out of the car, you couldn't do it this way 
other wise.
