Bill,Our tastes are similar. Both my Mopars have 100% stock, interior/exterior appearance (well - Ok, they do have a couple aftermarket gauges mounted under the dash, but purposefully inconspicuous) yet "Built" under the hood w/Hot-Rod nostalgia add-ons for the Plymouth and disguised or hidden HP parts on the 340 Dart (mid to high twelve's w/ the mild internal modifications).
I designed the custom Poly Tunnel Ram to fit under the hood of my Plymouth for stealth reasons. There is little clue to what lays under the hood by examining the car from inside the cab (huge orig. steering wheel, pushbutton trans...) or outside (steel wheels w/original stainless hubcaps...) but the Poker face smiles when you lift the hood and all the cards are on the table, so to speak.
My general preference is to "look" OEM, all-original but go like stink when you hammer it.
However, if it looks modified, it better be fast enough to justify the image.

I'm a big fan of make it look stock, but doesn't have to run that way. I certainly don't mind the aftermarket dress-up parts you'll probably never see anything but a chrome air cleaner on any of my cars...just my taste. And as far as parts "must satisfy the HP & Torque goals.requirements...before adding glitz" and I agree 100%. Valve covers, braided hoses, etc. don't make it go faster which is why I won't buy them, besides personal taste. I'm not saying dress-up stuff doesn't look good if done right, but most aftermarket stuff like that is just not for me. I'd much rather spend my precious few dollars on something that will make it faster.
