In Canada they installed 413 engines up to S/N 204647 (Windsor VINs started at 200001 in 1966). They also changed the VIN letter for the engines at 204648 : Early : A - 170 B - 225 C - 273 D - 318 E - 361 F - 383 G - 413 H - 426 (hemi) J - 440 Late : A - 170 B - 225 C - Special 6 D - 273 E - 318 F - 361 G - 383 H - 426 (hemi) J - 440 K - Special V8 The above is from the 1966 Chrysler of Canada Service Manual and 1966 Chryco Parts Catalogue. The Canadian 1966 parts catalogue does not list parts for either the 413 or the 426 wedge. I have often heard the 440 was slow getting into production, which would help explain why Chrysler Canada used the 413 for the first few weeks of production (August and the first couple days of September), which would include Chrysler New Yorker and Plymouth Fury (optional engine) and Dodge Polara/Monaco (optional engine). Using today's marketplace mentality standards, I suspect the buyer who bought a new 1966 Mopar with a HP motor when the 1966 models were first released would perhaps be less-than-happy when he or she found out their Mopar got a 426 -- while the buddy who bought a similar Mopar in mid-1966 got a 440. Both great motors. Just a "My car got a leftover engine" sour note potential. Unless the factory dropped in a 426 Hemi of course.
