Re: Mopar 383 engine tech

It may have popped a lifter out of one of the bores. I had that happen before when a rockershaft bolt loosened up. The shaft bent up enough to allow a pushrod to get loose and out came a lifter.

Hay all, today I got back to tinkering with the 64 Sport Fury with a late
60's 383. Checking the dwell, adjusting the carb and playing with the
timeing. I got it starting fairly well and set the idle at about 800 RPM
with the lumpy cam it has. I noticed the top end was makeing increaseingly
louder noise. It has hyd lifters and they were working ok. I checked the
mechanical oil pressure quage and 0 oil pressure!! Previously oil pressure
had been fine until today. Of course I shut it right down.

It was running, so I know the intermediat shaft was working the dist---but
the oil pump?? Q uestion is, what is the route of the oil after it leaves
the pump and oil filter? I think a bearing either main or cam has turned
, shutting off the oil to the guage fitting and the valve train. Any input
is appreciated.............................MO
