The inner seals are used to keep the differential lube out of the wheel 
bearing area.  They are installed with the spring lip IN.

The wheel bearings are grease packed like the front wheel bearings 
except much larger and they are pressed onto the axle shaft.

The outer seals are also installed with the lip in to keep the wheel 
bearing grease out of the backing plate area and brakes.

Check the seals when you take them out, they may have been installed 
backwards or the lips may have been damaged when installing the axles.  
It is very easy to damage the seal installing axles.

I don't have the spec for the wheel bearing grease but probably nothing 
special, just a good wheel bearing grease.  You should not have any lube 
from the differential in with the grease.

The fact that you have lube on the brakes on both sides in interesting, 
it would have had to got passed both seals on each side.
