Re: Transmission Numbers ?

One other thing.  '66 was the ONLY year with a 2 cable 727 that still had a lever worked kickdown in the trans.  '67 and up went with a solinoid for the trans kickdown.

The '62 to '65 transmissions are getting real hard to find.  The trans in my '62 is part '65 and part '64.  A lot of places that used to carry those transmissions are no longer selling ANY 727 trans', except for TCI and a few other places.  You don't even want to know how much some of the transmissions cost.  Google up 727 trans for sale or something similar and see what you find and how much they cost.  Even ones made for 66 and up, sometimes it says 67 and up because of the solinoid trans kickdown.

66 was the last year for the 19 spline shaft, in 67 they switched to a 24 spline shaft, if you have a cable shift housing with a 24 spline shaft in it, some one has changed the shaft/pump out to the later style, this was a popular thing to do to have more choices in torque convertors

Going from memory, it has a different spline count than the others.
May also be larger diameter?  Not sure.  I'd have to go have a look
again.  As I recall, I tried to use it some 20 years ago, but didn't
have a converter that would work.  Used another that was handy, and
set this one aside.
