Re: The Smaller Starter?

Hi fellas,
Just a couple of my experiences with mini-starters. I bought a new unit from Mancini's to crank my 493 motor but it wore out quickly. Looked like a Chinese copy of the Denso starter. To replace that unit I purchased a MSD starter but, it looks just like the one I wore out except for the shiny red paint job. So far it does the job. I also have a insulating sleeve over the starter to protect it from the header heat.

You can use most any Mopar mini-starter in your car. In the link for the pro-something starter it lists the applications and the poly will be the same as the LA small blocks. Dakota starters seem to be the preferred choice. Perhaps easiest and cheapest to get. I have a Summit unit on mine since '06 and it works great. I would recommend using a heat shield blanket if it is close to the headers like my TTI's. That much heat can't be good for them.

I've read about a smaller high tourge starter some use to switch out
the stock starter.  Will this fit a '62 361 auto?
