Re: Water as Collant - Bad?



Another good reason to use more than just water is that straight water can and will rust out the freeze plugs.I know this cuz it happened to me years ago with my 69 Super Bee.Blew the water pump,took it to dealer, did not know until much later when my freeze plugs started to blow out one at a time that the dealer just put water back in.I learned the hard way to make sure I had more than just water in there.

With just water, you do need at least a rust inhibitor and water pump
lubricant additives.  Straight water will get rusty in a short time,
and then could result in clogged radiator.  Anti freeze takes care of
both these issues --and with the proper radiator cap, iincrease the
boiling temp of your coolant. .............................MO
