The flat or cup style core plugs can be removed as Dodger said by drilling a hole and prying out. The cup type can be removed by driving in one side until the plug pivots in the hole. Grab it with Channellock pliers and roll it out. I like to use #2 Permatex or silicone sealant on the perimeter of the plug. The install with the flat style is with a large tipped punch and firm hammer blows-use some restraint. The cup style can be driven in with a socket or length of pipe almost the ID of the cup. Be careful not to go to deep in the hole!
