Usually, as long as it is visible, you are good to go.  A lot of people leave it by the front tire.  Easy to get to if needed.

At AACA shows, having a fully charged extinguisher is mandatory.  Car won't 
be judged without one.

There are shows I attend where the judge will dock you points if you
don't have a fire extinguisher no matter what class.  Somebody thinks it
real important so I think we should, too.
