I think you will really like your electric fuel pump. Having gone
through this I have a couple of general comments:
Install the oil pressure switch and relay so the pump will only run
with oil pressure or
when cranking. A push button or spring loaded
toggle switch that bypasses the oil pressure switch is handy, you will
be able to fill the carb before cranking.
Some have left the mechanical pump and pumped through it. This works
fine except I found that if the electric pump is installed per
instructions with a fuel filter before it the electric pump and filter
have enough restriction that the mechanical could not pump through it
if the tank had less than 1/2 fuel. I removed the mechanical pump.
I don't know how common it is today but if the diaphram in a
mechanical pump fails fuel goes into the pan. Most old time mechanics
will have stories of oil pans full of fuel and some have seen the
results of the fuel exploding with the resulting fire.
