Make sure you do something to prevent all the tanny fluid from flowing out the end of the tailshaft like installing an spare front drivehsaft yoke. Makes one bloody mess if you don't put a cork in it - BTDT

According to my books they are pulled together or separate or remove the sub frame.  What ever makes you happy.  If you can pull a 383/727 I don't see why you would have any issues with a 318/727 It's a smaller block and tranny case...smaller car too but should be about the same effort to remove it.  So long as you have the height in the room you are doing it, and can raise up the car a bit for clearance from the ground it should just come out.  But you can separate them if clearance is a problem, or you can just do what I did and take the sub frame off and lift the body off and roll out the sub frame and wheels and motor and tranny.  Really just a space issue and what you feel comfortable doing.
