I don't have any problem with the ball & trunion, so that's fine with me (flange type).  If I can't get a driveshaft with a flange type transmission, I can have one made, that's not a big deal, just a little costly.
 
I bought a Valiant shifter, I think it's a '64 unit with the round buttons.  My plan is to mount that horizontally at the bottom of the dash in the middle.  I thought it might be cool to sink it in between the seats, but these shifters are pretty bulky, so it would hang beneath the car.
