Re: 65 Coronet 727 Trans Shift Shaft Seal

I have new ones and yes they do look just like that.  A little trick if you have to get by...in high school in the '60's I bought my first '62, it was a 318 and 727.  It leaked out fluid from the kick down shaft seal every day while parked at school and at work, and I was carrying a case of fluid in the trunk.  The school got on me about it so when I got home one day, I pulled the lever off and made a stack of washers, probably 3/16" flat washers IIRC, tall enough to press down on the seal when I put the lever back on.  This desperate attempt at backyard engineering worked so well I never had to replace the seal for the 3 years I had the 318.  I put a 383 and 727 out of a '62 ISP squad car in it then and put a new seal in there on the big block trans while I was at it.

Finally got the seal today & the one I was advised was the right seal by the parts guy was a Timken 8609.  Well it is not the correct seal it's about 3 times to large.  I cleaned & took the kick down rod off the shaft, it appears to be a small O ring type seal in the top.  I found http://www.nationalmoparts.com/merchant.ihtml?pid=4521&step=4 not sure if this is the correct one?

If that is the correct one can I still do it without dropping the pan?

Here is a link to picture the leak is coming from the Throttle Shaft that is on the picture.  http://s8.beta.photobucket.com/user/tnaz71/media/2012-12-14212809_zps1f333852.jpg.html

Thanks!

I will try and get a picture of the one on mine tomorrow
