Re: master cylinder?



Daniel,

In my case there it is impossible for the rod to slip out the back of the master cylinder as there is not enough room to disengage the rod w/o unbolting the pedal arm. Someone else's project may require the rubber grommet.

doesn't have the brake rod locked into the back of the MC. (on manual

Not if you measure the pedal travel correctly.  It is mandatory to measure
your pedal travel to eliminate the possibility.

Gary if you're talking about power brakes you don't need the rubber locking
ring but........with manual brakes you stand a good chance of the brake rod
falling out of the back of the master cylinder if the rubber locking ring
isn't installed.

I used the Mopar dual resevoir MC from Master Power Brake on my '56 Plymouth

and an adjustable brake rod from the same vendor - no issues as these pieces

interchange for many, many years.

I removed the rubber "piece" on the brake rod as you cannot set the proper
piston to rod clearance easily...serves no real purpose in my mind.

I've never been able to find a replacement for that rubber piece but you can
cut one from a piece of vacuum hose. Don't remember the exact size but use a
hose with the same inside dia. As the outside dia. Of the groove in the
brake rod.

No change that I recall. Someone else may chime in if I am in error.

The brake rod is sometimes troublesome to remove from the single reservoir
version.

BTW, anyone know if the rubber piece that holds the rod in place reproduced
now? At one time it was difficult to find.
