Found some beat up sun visors in the trunk under some of the shag carpet a year or so ago, and I set them aside and finally did something with them. They were rust stained and beat up so I wiped them down with a wet rag a few times till clean. The strip around the one was all but gone and the strip around the other all of the stitching had disintegrated off. The vinyl ends also both broke off.
The paperboard the vinly is glued to also flattened and concaved in, sgowing the wing boards full outline. Took an iron, turned steam on and layed a wet towell undet it and gently recurved the paper board. One of the press board wings also had to be flattened this way.
I went to lowes and.found.some vinylnsleeves that barely slid over the end of what was left on mine. Then found an inner sleeve the same size od. And screwed a vinyl screw down the center of that for extra strength. Glued them to the broken vinly and let sit overnight..
Next came the hand stitching. The first one wasn't so straight. I lock stitched it in with a leather hand sewer. Close up, couldda done better. But for $10 in parts, some blood from the stuck fingers, and a little bit of glue, pretty decent.
