I posted this in general section and got nothing !!
My E-Brake warning lite burned out
I had to break it to get it out
I melted the red lens
Ithe bulb is a bumbler 68 , that's big
I found a smaller bulb , same base
But it still does not fit , what am I missing .?
The socket needs to come apart , but it doesn't ?
Anyone have experience with these .
My car is a 58 Coronet
Thanks,
Robb

Hi, Robert:

That is not an uncommon problem with the warning lights. I would recommend a light emmitting diode replacement. I fried a tail lamp lense on the De Soto and replaced those bulbs with LED - cool as can be.

try:

So Robert, are you having trouble dismantling the assembly?

From what I remember there is the outer chromed pot-metal ring and lens - behind the dash was a galvenized metal sleeve or tube and a regular bulb-assembly plugs into the back of the sleeve - then the wires lead back to the switch.

I have an assembly if we need pictures.

I have it dismantled
As in the diagram, but as I was saying it appears that the bulb was installed prior to the sleeve
Being installed . And I tried to take that off , but no go !!
I had to break the bulb to remove it .
The base fits back in , but the bulb itself is to wide !!
Mabey the LED,s have a smaller bulb ?

Yes, the LEDs should be a much smaller bulb - and no burned lens problem either. That may be just the ticket.
