Location: central Massachusetts | Want to swap out my tank this winter for the 55 Dodge Royal Custom. Overall the tank isn't too bad as we got most of the crap out and many in-line filters later seems decent but there is a tiny weep that comes out of the seam area with any tank fill over 3/4 full. I have seen some posts here for later reproduction replacement tanks for later years. Anyone seen something for the 55? |

Location: Michigan | The radiator shop down the street fixed my tank. I would try saving yours. I was not able to find a repro. There is also this option which the radiator shop offered to perform on mine but this is the do-it-yourself kit. http://www.caswellplating.com/restoration-aids/epoxy-gas-tank-seale...

| These fuel tanks have a built-in, permanent OILITE filter that is self-cleaning. (You blow compressed air in the outlet.) Swishing around epoxy gas tank sealant inside will therefore seal up the filter and prevent fuel from being sucked out by the pump.
I do agree your only option is to save your tank. I haven't fully investigated it, but it seems to me that there should be a modern tank with similar dimensions that could be adapted, and use the modern tank sender/pickup assembly through the top center hole. |

Isn't it possible to remove the pick up tube /w the filter? I guess during the production process once the whole gas tank has been assembled. (I agree /w the danger to clog the built in filter if there is no protection for it during the coating).
Happy motoring!

Location: central Massachusetts | I never understood why, except to force replacement, these tanks' filters were sealed as they were. Such a small weep, I think I will pull the tak this winter and try, as suggested, one of the old timer-owned radiator shops nearby. I know he saves many old radiators where others want to sell a new replacement- at least it's worth the try. Perhaps after cleaning out he could solder a patch. Thanks folks |

| Th original factory material suggests steam cleaning, which could be done in situ. |
