Elite Veteran Posts: 943 | Still trying to figure out the problem, the pump has been rebuilt correctly (hopefully) this time, and tested. The belt was wrong, put the right belt on it, now it doesn't seem to be bubbling like it was before but it's not steering properly. There's a constant squeaking noise. When I turn the wheel, some areas have assist, some spots none and it's hard to turn the wheel. I can post a link to a video of it, it's behaving strange, if anyone has any suggestions what might be going on . | ||

I would flush out the pump reservoir and lines thoroughly. Then refill with power steering fluid. Then bleed. Ron | ||

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9675 Location: So. Cal | Bubbles in your fluid can also cause that. When your fluid gets a little low, or when you have a leak at your box, you can get bubbles generated in the system. | ||

Elite Veteran Posts: 943 | Well just for the heck of it, replaced the fluid, that's not what's going on, here's a video the pump. It squeaks and appears to be turning slowly which is weird. Elite Veteran Posts: 943 | The pump is back at the rebuilder who says it tests out fine, I'll go there and see for myself. Possible suggestions for the problem were belt not tight enough, wrong belt style (but I have the correct belt as cross referenced with the OEM part number), some kind of issue with the pulley on the pump. Ideas? I'm pretty much stumped. This does not seem like a gearbox issue. The pump will squeak when the wheel is not being turned. | ||

Elite Veteran Posts: 1141 Location: Blackpool, United Kingdom. | Looks like belt is slipping on bottom pulley, belt looks to need more tension on it, you should have 1/8 inch deflection on a new belt and 3/16 on a old belt. Elite Veteran Posts: 943 | Thank you, the belt was indeed slipping on the pulley. I had the pulley checked to make sure it was true and not slightly bent. Now it works as it should, finally.... Thanks guys for the help and suggestions. | ||
