Member Posts: 38 | 56 300B, new leaf springs from Detroit Eaton. Nice springs and hardware, but I am unclear about whether a pad is needed between the spring and axle or spring and shock mount bracket (bottom of u-bolt clamp)? The original pads are not in great shape and it looks like NOS is the only way to get them (so, not really available). Other info on Eaton's site says that pads are not necessary, but that info is not for this specific application. It looks like that has been discussed before on here, and that later full-size Chryslers did not have pads in that location. Is it OK to ditch the pads for a '56 application. Note: I am not going for judge points. Thanks.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9911 Location: Lower Mainland BC | . I was hoping that this diagram would help but it doesn't call out any pads. There is a listing for "Insulator" in Section 17-11-10 but it doesn't show up in any diagrams. Sorry. Member Posts: 38 | The one side had pretty much nothing left... passenger side is pictured below. From what I gather, they are not really needed and later year full size Chryslers did not have them. Member Posts: 38 | I've got bigger problems though. :/ One front hanger bracket is half gone. Wonder if I have to have one fabricated. Elite Veteran Posts: 655 Location: Finland | I would fabricate them myself. Make paper templates for bottom and sides and cut with your angle grinder. Then make a radius on both sides and bottom in a wise before you weld the together. Fixate with a wood block between sides and a clamp while welding.
