Expert 5K+ Posts: 9684 Location: So. Cal | I am missing the right side horn on my '57 Windsor. Problem is I have never seen another horn like the one on the left side so I'm not sure what I need to be looking for on the right. Looking in the FSM, the car could have come with Autolite, Spartan, or Jubilee horns. Is this horn the Jubilee? Would the right side look the same as this one? Board Moderator & Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 13054 Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | Isn't that a triad horn (highway horn) (the third horn)? I have the one in the picture above together with the two horns shown in the 58 pictures - it sounds really amazing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxWiUyLIW8c Oh, sorry didn't want to derail the thread - I have never seen the "trumpet" one in the first picture before Edited by wizard 2013-09-30 11:34 AM

Inactive by user's request Location: Las Vegas, Nevada | My '57 Saratoga has dual horns. The long neck passenger side horn as pictured above and the regular "crab shell" horn on the driver's side. They sound similar to the one in the video. K. Edited by Kenny J. 2013-09-30 5:26 PM

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9684 Location: So. Cal | I think my horn is a Jubilee horn because this auction shows an aftermarket Jubilee horn that looks like mine. Here, they say that the large horn acts like the third low note horn. So that makes me wonder what other horn(s) should I be using with this? Is it another on the right side that looks similar, or two smaller Autolites or Spartons or ??? The other auction I link is for a horn set made in the 40's-50's that uses two large style horns together. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jubilee-68-Piggy-Back-Diesel-Tone-Auto-Horn... http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-1940S-1950S-JUBILEE-DUAL-AIR-HORNS-... Expert Posts: 1737 Location: Hay Lakes, Alberta, Canada | According to my '57 parts book, there were several options for horns, through-out the different makes/models. The Chryslers could come with Autolite horns in Canada, or Sparton and Jubillee horns in the U.S. So, on U.S. built Chrysler cars, these were the options: Left-upper-low note-sea shell type-Sparton 1753014 Left-upper-low note-Jubilee-includes adaptor 1753022 Left-lower-Low, low note-Jubilee-includes adaptor 1753021 left-lower-high note-Sparton-extra third horn 1753015 According to the book, U.S. Chrysler cars didn't have horns mounted on the right side, only the left!

Expert Posts: 1730 Location: Michigan | The issue I find with all these eBay horns is that they are rusted up inside and do not work. I have to figure out how to repair / rebuild my own. They are not too bad but they are intermittent. They kinda work when they want too. And it's not the relay.. I have replaced that.

I have to figure out how to repair / rebuild my own. They are not too bad but they are intermittent. They kinda work when they want too. And it's not the relay.. I have replaced that. I have found some intermittent horn issues can be caused by the steering wheel contact needing to be cleaned or replaced, grounding issues within the circuitry or just bad wiring (corrosion hidden within the insulation, causing resistance.) I use a very simple pair of tests. I test the horns off the vehicle by using a battery. I also try a sent of horns known to work well in the vehicle where operation is "iffy." These tests almost always indicate whether the issue is caused by the horns themselves or by issues within the circuit. K.

Thanks for the great info Brad! It is odd though that you say that Autolites only came on Canadian cars because the Autolites seem to be the most common among the cars that I see. Also, are you saying that the typical third horn on the right that I thought would be used with Autolites and maybe Spartons was not available for 1957? Now how do I figure out if I have a high or low note horn because I didn't see a part number on it, but maybe it is hiding on there somewhere. Also, what does the other jubilee horn look like and how does it mount together on the left side? Does anyone have a picture of them mounted in the car or otherwise? I am assuming that the adapter they are referring to is the mounting bracket shown in the picture of mine. Edited by Powerflite 2013-10-03 2:15 PM

Expert Posts: 1737 Location: Hay Lakes, Alberta, Canada | Well, according to the parts manual, the Chryslers built in the U.S. didn't use Autolites. BUT, the DeSoto's, Dodges, and Plymouths could have come with Autolites, depending on what was ordered, including if the car was ordered with A/C or not. The manual has a page and a half of horn listings, and then ANOTHER whole page dedicated to horn mounting brackets! Sheesh!!!

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9684 Location: So. Cal | A lot of the cars I see look like Kenny's with autolites. This weekend I went to BigM and checked out the cars there. Most of them, I presume, would have been built in Los Angeles like my car. Lo and behold, he had 3 cars with horns and all of them were Jubilee's like mine. So maybe it was a regional thing? Or maybe the autolites have been transplanted at some point? The smaller Jubilee horn mounts to the middle grille brace and faces opposite the lower one. I never would have guessed that. If you look in the pictures of Brad and Greg's cars, you can see the 2 holes that would be used to mount this Jubilee horn on the grille brace. Expert 5K+ Posts: 9684 Location: So. Cal | Here is a front view of a different car. Here you can see that the lower horn is longer and would be the low note, while the upper one is a little shorter for a higher tone. There was a single high tone horn lying in one of the cars that John was gracious enough to sell me. I took it home and tested it and it works great. Thanks John! Expert 5K+ Posts: 9684 Location: So. Cal | I guess my quest is over now, except that I don't know if the Autolite 3rd horn would have ever been used with the Jubilee duals, or if Jubilee had it's own version of a third horn (including years other than 1957). Inactive by user's request Location: Las Vegas, Nevada | I agree, Nathan. I believe it was a matter of region and perhaps what was being supplied at different times during the model year. I need to look at my V.I.N. again, but I am pretty sure my Saratoga is a Detroit built car. I saw a mix of Autolite and Jubilee at Big M last time I was there. The U.S. shop manual lists servicing for Spartan, Autolite and Jubilee horns. U.S.-built 1957 Chryslers came from either L.A. or Detroit. U.S.-built 1957 Imperials were built exclusively in Detroit. Expert 5K+ Posts: 9684 Location: So. Cal | Yes, there are too many cars that I see with Autolites for them to all be transplanted. I just bought another '57 Windsor built in the Detriot area that seems like it originally came with an Autolite. Was it actually built on the Canadian side of Detroit so that maybe that is why these cars were built with Autolites? Expert 5K+ Posts: 9684 Location: So. Cal | Oh, and I ended up using a 3rd horn with the Jubilees. I bought one of those "Piggy-back Diesel" aftermarket Jubilee horns and left the smaller piggy back horn on it. The sound with all three horns is great. Kenny or Brad - Do you have a picture of the second Autolite horn - what the bracket looks like and where it mounts? I see you have a 3rd horn on your car, but where does the 2nd go? Location: North Australia | Seriously though I would like a long horn! I found that my 60 Imp low horn worked with the battery test, but fizzed when in the car, unless the engine is running. Concluded an extra volt or two made the difference. Steve.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9684 Location: So. Cal | Make sure the connections are really clean, maybe try replacing the connector and solder it on. If you have a high resistance connection, that would cause you to lose a couple of volts. Thanks Brad. Looks like there are only 2 then. Edited by Powerflite 2013-11-25 10:08 AM
