Hi everyone,

Have been and a frequent visitor to the site since only discovering it quite recently and hats off to the people who give their time and effort so freely. My car is ex Los Angeles and has been in Australia since at least the early 90's. Has not seen the road since 1979 but I've had her since 1998 and got her running in 2003. Had a bit of rust and some substantial body damage at one point but is now presentable. Has power brakes, steering, windows and seats. No aircon. It will now lead a very pampered life. When funds / time permits, it will be treated to a body off resto, but for now will have to settle for a full mechanical resto (completed) and a tarted up body. The co-axial steering box, trunnions, centerplane brakes were a real bear to work with but made a good challenge ! Have made many acquaintances and a few close friends, so has been very worthwhile so far. My name is Colin and I have a technical background, so might be able to reply to a few posts, especially relaying my experiences so far. As you guys know, a lot of shops have a hard time dealing with fixing old components as most are happy to throw a modern broken part in the bin and swap in a new one. My admiration for Mopar has grown since I have been able to rebuild, clean and free up a lot of my cars parts. NOTHING worked on the car when purchased but now it drives like a dream. Am fixing power windows at present. (Thanks for instructions Glenn - NZ) !

Anyhow, am planning to go to Tulsa next year and hope to meet a few people there from the forum and/or clubs. Dont forget to wears something identifiable like a hat or tee shirt !!!

I work for an American Tooling company by chance (hq. Pennsylvania) and did my apprenticeship at a brake manufacturer. Programming CNC's, machining, making one-offs etc etc have all been part of the job at some stage and are a good background for cars. Although I have received a few sideways glances during job interviews when I ask, "How big is your palting bath" or "where is your sandblaster located?"

Just glad to be here ! Keep up the good info .....................

Cars rego is period for Melbourne, Australia BTW !!!

Ok, did a trial using irfan and looks ok.  Pic looks small compared to afew others I have seen.  Had to squeeze under 100kb.

Any ideas on how to keep a good size but maybe sacrifice a bit of detail please?

More to follow I hope.

SUBTITLED :   Don't bury me too !

Rgds.......Colin

use microsoft paint on you computer. open the program, go to the file tab, open new, get the pic from where you keep them, once the pic is in the window, hit ctrl and w at the same time. try reducing the values by at least 50% height and 50% width. then click file tab again and hit save as. rename the pic; resizedplymouthpic1. then go to where you keep the pics, and put the cursor over the pic to see how big the resized pic is now. if it under 100k, then you are good to go. if slightly over 100k, then start over and this time reduce the values by say 55%x55%. always start with the original pic so you are not reducing a pic that has been reduced before or it will be very small again. this method is quik and easy. mike in k.c.

Thanks for the tip Mike.   It worked a treat.  I'll get right on it and post a few more pics.    The first pic was taken after the engine fired for the first time.  Fuel tank not fixed yet so was runnibg off a squirter bottle.  Second pic was not long after its maiden voyage after front end / brake rebuild.   After car is sorted mechanically and I complete my other vehicle (63 1/2 Galaxie)  I'll pull the 57 for a proper paint job.   Current paint is a variation of Desert gold ; a bit livlier and a coarser metallic flake - now 7 years old.

Another question to the good members is -

Does anyone have a template for the mirror positions for the top of the front guards please?  Have removed dealer installed mirrors (pacesetters) and obtained bullet mirrors (not twin struts).   I suppose the easiest way would be for me to fax a template of upper corner of guard and volunteer to mark it up according to factory position and fax back.   I can then maybe scan and post for future reference for all....

Thanks and rgds..........Colin

Don't know what it is, Colin, but I had to really work at it in Irfanview to get that first pic under 100kb... took the resolution down to 68dpi, cropped in a bit and reduced to 65%, just got to 97kb!

Same size pics with my camera come in at around 60kb.
