Location: Parts Unknown | VERY interesting to see that paperwork for the 58 NY'er convertible. SIX THOUSAND 1958 DOLLARS !!! I priced my Fireflite out using the dealer price sheets and came out about the same. That seemed shockingly high, considering my parents bought their rather upscale new home for something in the 13K range about that time. It would be one outrageously expensive car today that would cost half the price of an upscale home. No wonder they did not sell many of them. Makes me wonder what Lincolns, Cadillacs, and Imperials sold for back then !

Location: Parts Unknown | Looks like Mr. Metzler traded in a 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 2HT for his new 1958 NY'er convertible ... based on the above paperwork and a little research what "Model 63A" meant: http://www.1957ford.com/asp/gallery.aspx?catmstrid=1&catdetid=7 With a V-8 base price of $2439, the trade-in allowance of $2988, this was either VERY generous or he had a very well-optioned 57 Ford ! I'd sure like to talk with Mr. Metzler and asked why he did what he did. Was it the stunning NY'er styling ? Was the Ford a dog ? Did he regularly buy new cars like this ? I wonder what line of work he was in ? Cool stuff !

Location: Parts Unknown | Miami whitepages shows TWO Glenn O. Metzlers, BOTH aged 87 years old. Perhaps two listings for the same guy ? OK, now I want to know the back story on the above paperwork !!!

Expert Posts: 1819 Location: Vancouver, BC | Some 1958 convertible base prices (without any options) : Buick Roadmaster - $4,690 Buick Limited - $5,125 Cadillac Series 62 - $5,454 Imperial Crown - $5,759 Lincoln Continental Mark III - $6,223 Chrysler New Yorker - $4,761 Chrysler 300-D - $5,603 DeSoto Fireflite - $4,152 DeSoto Adventurer - $4,749 The above are F.O.B. suggested prices - at the factory ready to be shipped and not including shipping. Dealer seems to have added a bit of a mark up. Just for shock comparison, the Canadian suggested prices for a 1958 convertible - Chrysler New Yorker - $6,038 Imperial Crown - $7,311 Buick Limited - $6,619 Cadillac series 62 - $6,947 Lincoln Continental Mark III - $8,070 The above convertibles were imported from Michigan, thus there were various import duties and taxes added to the cost. The Canadian dollar averaged about $1.03 US during the 1958 model year. Edited by Chrycoman 2015-09-04 3:40 AM

Here are a few pictures now. ===================================== That is the backstory I was looking for ! So, this car survives AND you got all the great paperwork with it too ! WOW ! That doesn't happen very often. Wish I had that kind of history for my DeSoto ! What did Mr. Metzler tell you about the car ... why he bough it (over other choices) and why he didn't junk it like everyone else did with their very expensive 58 Mopar ragtop ? Good stuff, Chad !

Location: Parts Unknown | In the Mobil color photo above, the 58 Chevy shows a remarkable likeness to a 59 Dodge in the front end. The service/light pole hides the lack of "angry eyebrows", making the similarity in bumper shape, location of parking lights, and side profile of the headlight location show without distraction.
