Expert Posts: 2003 Location: Branson, MO | This picture of all the DeSotos leaving what appears to be some kind of a dealer function, reminds me of when my dad and I went to a Detroit Lions game with other area dealers and they had a dealer Drive-A-Way where each dealer got a car after the game and drove it home. Not sure this is that event but it was the fall of 1958 and the cars were 1959 models. Dad's was a medium blue metalic (Heather Blue?) Firedome 4 door sedan with a stainless side sweep and either a white or silver top. If it was the latter, it was the same as the Detroit Lions colors. Location: Bjorneborg, Finland | The first one of hemidave's city scene images; notice how tightly the cars are parked in the "city life" picture. Most cars could not even move out there without moving the other cars first. How crazy. I spotted a '57 DeSoto Fireflite 2-dr HT, I wanna buy it. Expert Posts: 1288 | Lads -- The third photo down in Spinout's submission was taken in the Garden of the Gods, a natural city park in Colorado Springs, Colorado. As the sign indicates, the formation with the people and railing on it is "Steamboat Rock" and, while you can't really see why in the picture, the one on the right is "Balanced Rock" (but when you can see the whole thing, the name is evident). A question, on the Picture 12015075_882578538522110_962124075457799172_o.jpg posted by Denis we can see water lister bags that hangs on the grilles of the Chevy '54 and the Dodge '58 possible also on the bumper of the Chevy '58. We all know that the water really becomes much cooler in a lister bag, but was that water normally used for drinking or for the radiator. Today, we don't see any lister bags anymore, not even in the "hot" states

The last time I went that way by car must have been in 1982 and you could still go down in an elevator where the generators were located. I suppose that's not alowed anymore either. Today, we don't see any lister bags anymore, not even in the "hot" states I would say it could be used for drinking or the radiator, so long as it was only water and nothing had been put in it to contaminate the water. Modern cars have better cooling systems so it is no longer necessary to carry water in a water bag when driving through the desert. That's probably why you don't see them anymore hung on the front of cars to keep the water cool by evaporation. Anyway, where would you hang a bag on a modern car with it's ground effects plastic bumper covering? You'd have to screw in a hook of some kind. . Expert Posts: 2473 Location: Dalveen, Queensland, Australia | The canvas water bags were definitely for drinking water, not for the radiator... you wouldn't put cold water into a radiator anyway... And when I went to Hoover Dam in 2012 you could drive over it. After your vehicle was stopped and maybe inspected, you were quizzed and you couldn't stop as you drove across. I doubt that this situation has changed since as it's an important method of accessing the tourist lookouts if coming from the Las Vegas side.

Board Moderator & Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 13050 Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | Thanks' guys, I thought the bags were for drinking water, but I was not sure. Of course it could be used for the radiator as well in emergencies. On the new cars theres limited places to keep such a bag, perhaps on the outside rearview mirror, but they would most probably break off due to cheap plastic In 2011 we took a bus tour to Grand Canyon, mostly because it was a "package" deal and it was convenient. We were informed by the tour leader that the dam was closed for normal traffic and as you see in this phote, only a few cars were present. When we asked about the cars we were informed that they were workers or people with access. Now if that was true or not, I cannot tell - but we were taking the by-pass bridge.....
