Expert 5K+ Posts: 7401 Location: northern germany | you're welcome. i envy you for growing up in that era. i grew up in the 70s, when for some reason 1950s american films were very popular in gemany. i was sold on americana instantly. a unique, unrepeatable time in history. Surely the point of the photo is that the two cars are jammed into one parking spot? That they're parked on one meter? Note the paint marks on the kerb. As for the 'one in front', it will be carrying Forward Look decals, being a Chrysler product of the Forward Look era. Its greatest sins are the preponderance of plastic on the interior (just like today's cars!) and not having a temperature gauge or light.

Too bad we can't see its license plate. The "F" is the international symbol for France, which is where the Simca was made. European countries did not have any identification on their license plates as to which country issued the plates. So, it became common to have a sticker attached to the car to show where the car was registered. It is not necessary to have the "F" in North America as each state / province puts the name of their jurisdiction on it. Back then, though, it was not uncommon to have the car owner to put the country sticker on their cars to show everyone where their car was built. Today we have cars from different Asian countries while back in the late 1950's and early 1960's it was Europe - Czechoslovakia (CS), France (F), Germany (D), Great Britain (GB), Italy (I), Netherlands (NL), Sweden (S), Switzerland (CH)

I went to high school in Ohio during the 1960s and I remember this movie or one very like it was screened for our driver's education class. It had considerable shock value for the day. Blood Alley was another one we saw too. Note that the 1960 Dodge was a stick shift car. If one was looking for an automatic transmission pushbutton delete plate that car had one. It is probably about 50 years too late to try to find it now, if it even still exists, though. The 1953 Buick Super the 1960 Dodge rammed into was interesting too. My dad had one just like it back in the late 1950s. His was black with a white top though. He traded it in for a 1955 Buick Century which was white with a green top. He liked the speed that nailhead V-8 gave the '55 and he drove it like a moonshiner. Edited by 58 DESOTOS RULE 2016-01-07 11:35 PM

Expert Posts: 3967 Location: DFW, TX | Very interesting Plymouth there. I thought I remembered an article about a black Plymouth getting extended fins, and after a little digging, I found it - October 1957 Rod & Custom. I don't think it's the same car, but it very well could be with some '58 updating. They used Dodge fin tops to raise this Plymouth's fins. The address is in Clovis, CA. In fact, Renewal Body Works is still there. The car below was built about four hours away from there in Covina, CA. I find it interesting that so many people thought the FL Plymouth needed even bigger fins! Location: Parts Unknown | Amazing to me how often I recognize a familiar place shown in some of these photos. The toll booth scene in Dave's last post is State Route 520, or as it was better known then, the Evergreen Point floating bridge. You are looking east from the east side of Lake Washington. The hill in the background is the north end of Clyde Hill. Beyond the pedestrian overpass is an exit that if one went south from (right) they would go into Medina, go north (left) and the road shortly ended on Yarrow Point. Spin around 180º and you would be looking over the crest of a hill to the bridge spanning the lake and Seattle beyond. As the bridge reaches the far side, Madison Park and the Arboretum would be off to the left, the University of Washington a little farther beyond to the right. Bill Gates lives just to the left, off the bridge, as it drops down the hill to the lake. The toll was 25¢ and I traveled this route MANY, MANY times !
