WOW , NEVER NOTICED THAT - and I bet you are correct, D500 wagons had to have been LOW production for sure . . .

Any 58 or 59 D500 Wagon has got to be rare. There was a red/black 58 in PA that got sold on e*ay within the last year; that is the first one I've seen offered.

Why so rare? It really didn't offer a meaningful amount of extra power. Remember the standard plant on the Dodge wagons was the 350/4 or 361/4. The D500 package only got you about 10 HP more. In 58 I think it was like 305 HP vs. 295 HP.

On the other hand for the lousy $70 or so you got those FAB emblems and a way cooler car!

Same corner? Most of the buildings are still standing but cars changed a bit.

I'll bet that that was no happenstance that the 57/58 Dodges, and the 58 PLY, or the 57 CHRY, were parked where they were,
when those advertising photos were staged, at the New Frontier, the Goldenrod, and the Lincoln motels.

I've got the PC of the gold/white Coronet, digitally enlarged/cropped, into a nice piece of framed office artwork.

This is my Granmother standing in front of a Canadian Plodge wagon.Looking at the picture and the width of the C post it must be a two door eh? Looks like its beige or eggshell white with a blue roof,V8 and has Ontario plates. It may be a Regent as it looks trimless .My nanny lived 99 years...passed away in 2002.

You'd be right about the 2-door bit...

But don't the fins look a bit different to this one?

Ah yes... I was looking at the grille and those pieces with the parking lights, didn't notice they moved from one end to the other!

Thanks, Adriana...

I notice a lot of people don't seem to trust the parking brakes on these cars. There are rocks in front of the wheels on your Grandmother's wagon to keep it from rolling away. Not the first time I've seen some sort of blocks in front/behind the wheels of these cars with the parking brake on the driveshaft!

That would be right, especially in icy conditons where one wheel might slip... if it does, it allows the whole car to move of course...

With the trannie in Neutral, either/both of the rear wheels will try to turn the driveline, as the car might roll forward
or backward.

I dunno how much torque the trying-to-turn wheels might exert onto the driveline--depends upon the axle ratio and
the incline/coefficient of friction, I guess, but a properly secured parking brake(drum) should withstand that force
easily enough.

MT tried an experiment with a 58 Dodge, and applied the parking brake at about 30MPH, and, tore the driveline off/away
from its front trunion-joint !

I can vouch for the park brakes on the FL cars ! I've driven my Imp back from Albury to Sydney ( ~ 400 miles ) after the Chrysler on the Murray show with only the gears and the park brake to stop me.

..You're a brave, Guy!

Back in 82(?), I had to stop my car using only the hand brake, from about 30MPH, going down a steep hill; coasted
into an across-the-intersection service station--fortunately the traffic light was 'with' me.

Not fun.

That's one of the things I really like about driving old cars, even well-maintained ones. You are always alert, never sure exactly when a wheel cylinder ( or anything really ! ) is going to fail.

I finally made a start with it: putting all my Postcards on a web page.

It's mostly 1957 Dodge, some 1958 and 1959, and some others. Not so much yet, and I would like to have it simpeler, but that will have to wait.

Joakim, the AAA is the American Automobile Association, which organization goes WAY-back (Mr. Peabody) to the earliest
days of motordom-bering....

The AAA was even a racing-sanctioning body (there should be a large Wikipedia posting on it), but, it was, basically,
an auto insurance/car-breakdown-service company, which also had motels/restaurants subscribing to it, wherein they
would give discounts, and other-considerations, to people who belonged to the AAA---so, an AAA member would see a
sign 'welcoming' AAA members, and they would, apparently, be induced to patronize that establishment.

You could have/get the AAA insurance and/or its auto-service agreement, as part of your membership.

BTW, the SoCal AAA (known as the Automobile Club of Southern California) is a VERY-good insurance company, regarding
how well it treats its customers and its claimants.

And, btw, I don't know what the deal was, with FWDLK rear springs, but they sure lost their strength easily, as (typically-)
seen on that Coro/Roy, parked at the "Scandinavia House" tourist-trap PC, above here (unless its trunk
is loaded-down).

Found out it can be done better: http://www.panoramio.com/user/3888060

Click on a thumbnail and you'll see where the photographer was standing when the photo was taken.

Trying to tag them correctly with year, make and model.

There will come plenty more, but few in time, because scanning and retouching them is laborious.

Would you be so kind as to include the location name in your "jpg" title so we can ID where these pix were taken ?

Note how Vedette does his. Very helpful and enhances the viewing experience if one knows that location.

You could have/get the AAA insurance and/or its auto-service agreement, as part of your membership.

BTW, the SoCal AAA (known as the Automobile Club of Southern California) is a VERY-good insurance company, regarding
how well it treats its customers and its claimants.

The AAA welcoming signs meant the establishment met AAA's standards. Back in the late 1960's, after I got my driver's license, my family made a cross country trip from Winnipeg to Ontario and northern New York. My father belonged to the CAA and he used their travel service to plan out our trip. They provided maps, a "Trip-tik" which laid out the trip page by page with suggested stopping places, plus provincial / state listings (including prices) of motels and hotels rated by the AAA. The "AAA" sign was a guarantee the establishment provided clean, safe, quiet, family-rated rooms for the night at reasonable rates.

The Manitoba Motor League, part of the CAA, had a division that taught people how to drive. My parents insisted that was the way I was going to learn how to drive and they would pay for it. (My father taught my mother how to drive ten years before that and she was determined none of her children would have to go through that.)

The AAA got out of the racing record keeping business about the same time the AMA (Automobile Manufacturers Association) dictated that auto manufacturers were no longer to be involved in racing. Which is why the Big Three involvement in racing came to an end during the 1957 model year. The Sports Car Club of America took over from the AAA, although NASCAR decided to go its own way.

1938 St. Louis Car Company-built PCC trolley (tram), #3078 and a '59 Impala four door hardtop, of which I have two. Downtown Los Angeles.

The last five streetcar lines and the two trackless trolley were discontinued during early 1963. Many of these streetcars wound up in Egypt and ran well into the 1980s.

Who's idea was it to put a drive-in movie theatre next to the train track?

These are great!

It's interesting to see these '60 DeSotos with the missing chevrons on the tail lights....even when the car was not that old. I bet they started falling off within a couple years.

I also love the photo of the state of texes in this image. Kocky, ain't it!

Hey Adriana,

Do you know what amusement park, or what city/state this picture was taken in? I'm thinking It's from Pontchartrain Beach in New Orleans, or Miracle Strip Amusement Park in Panama City, Florida...

Adriana,

Do you have locations for these postcards / photos ????

In particular, the shopping center with Kresge Co. and Sun Drugs ? Looks a lot like a remember Bellevue Square when I was young.
