Doc, there's a large DENT, in that right/front door.

And, it looks more like Air Force gray, than Navy Haze Gray.

You are right ... I missed that dent. Thought it was just the shadows from the trees and/or was too busy focusing on the dog dishies ! If it was a fleet car, it would not have been long before the dent was repaired. If we knew the location it might give clue to who owned it if it was a fleet car. I just found the pix I have of the el strippo 57 Firedome convertible with a stick ! If I had a scanner I'd post them.

sparky7 - 2010-02-03 11:42 AM Geez I could look at these all day . . . that NYC Kodachrome, second from the top, is a real time warp. I can almost taste that cold 20 cent Rheingold draft at the RED ROSE BAR. Hey, CABBIE! Sparky

That photo is from the Charles W. Cushman collection at Indiana University.  The collection consists of 14,500 Kodachrome color slides taken by Cushman, an amateur photographer, from 1938 to 1969.  The color and clarity of these photos is amazing!

Here are links to some of Cushman's photos that contain Forward Look cars.  I'm sure there are many more that I've missed.  These links will take you to the page with information about the photo.  Click on the photo for an enlarged view.

You don't need a scanner!

Sit the pic down in good light, but not in the sun. Hold your digital camera about 2'6" away from it, use the mid-range of your zoom, not wide angle, not telephoto. Shoot the pic and crop around it.

The trick is to get the pic square in your viewfinder, but that's not real hard. Square, that is, so it's not tapered one way or the other.

A lot easier and quicker than scanning.

Boys school. Hmmm .... I did a Google search. No mention of military academy, but it may have been so in 1958 ???

The DeSoto looks quite dirty .... the tires, wheels, and hubcaps are monotone.

Make me wonder if that "grey" isn't actually a blue ?

Very unusual car all the same.

...Look at the overall color rendition in that DeSoto photo, and the cars, themselves.

That Soto is (all-)gray colored.

I think this is a 1960 Chrysler, but kinda hoped it would be a 1960 DeSoto.

Anybody here know for sure?

It's a Chrysler '60 4DHT for sure, but I'm unsure of whether it's a Windsor or A Saratoga - difficult to say without seeing the front fender. She has the standard side stainless trim, but the optional wheel well trim

It's kind of hard to see, but for me it looks like a '57 Saratoga - the front bumper guards and the long side trim indicates this. I do believe that she has dual headlight set-up as well.

I was scanning some slides for a friend's railroad web site and came across these.

First is the weed-spraying train. The photographer's car is visible in the first photo, next to the road.

The third photo, like the first two, was taken near Racine, Wisconsin.

The fourth photo was taken in Chicago. The line used the Chicago's elevated system between the north limits of the city and the terminal at Roosevelt Road.

And what a waste of such an appealing building/architecture...

Here 's a closer look. Looks just like straight from a fairy tail.

The mineral riches of the Front Range and a few others right behind in the background made for the most phenomenal cities and towns to spring up like this one. Denver, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Trinidad, Leadville, even Gunnison had utterly breathtaking high Victorian architecture. The sad part is that the fine caretakers of this treasure saw it as trash and treated it accordingly. Very little survives today compared to the vast eden that once was here.

Actually, Jim, that's a Coronet convertible, in your image up above here.

Besides the thin upper-side molding, all Coros got the black end-of-fin plate, and no Coros were supposed
to have the "V" emblem on the trunk---it did not designate the V/8 engine, and was only (supposed to be)
installed on the Royals and the CRL's.

Some Royals appear to have received the 'Coronet' black fin plates, and some Coros may have received that "V"
trunk emblem, but, those were non-normal/standard occurrences, IF.... they were OEM-installed.

And, Steve, those $8K cracker-box houses would correspond to about $80K, today, but, with all
the foreclosures recently, a much better house can be bought for not a whole lot more than that,
today.

See? Right-there, is a Royal with the (not-supposed-to-have-it/them) black painted end of fin plates!

It does, correctly, have the "V" trunk emblem, though.

The weight of the boat/trailer is not adversely affecting the ride height of the car.....
you'd think that it would bear down on the rear suspension more than 'this' (none-)
amount; the front end looks to be 'up' a little bit.

I prefer my trailers to have a reasonably balanced tongue weight ..... with the axle vs. tongue (or load) weight being close enough that the trailer can be moved without a vehicle. This also allows the trailer to NOT pull the back end of the tow vehicle to the ground and ride pretty close to level with weight on the axle, not the tongue / tow vehicle.

Glad you like then, Robert. With I-94 torn up for re-construction south of Milwaukee, a lot of people wish that high speed trolley line was still around. Most of the right of way is intact, but serves as a bike trail and power line corridor.

Jim; you got $51K, because that's about how-much L. Welk's black Super D500 would have cost, in today's USD.

And that car was probably salvaged sometime before 1970, because if it had survived after then, I'll bet that
it could have/should have been able to continue surviving, through today.

Who knows? Given that it was a SoCal car, which Larry would have only had for that one year, before he got
his '61, for free, maybe it received some TLC ownership.

Also, factory records confirm that no '59 Super D's were built in the L.A. plant, so this car would have been built & shipped
from Detroit.

That yellow(?) CRL vert is Van Nuys, too.....

Some industries along the railroad didn't have overhead wires on their sidings, so some locomotives used batteries (charged by the overhead wires on the main line) to switch these plants:
