Elite Veteran Posts: 769 | Here a pic of my 61s. The black one on the right is a option loaded red int,383GC 3spd Manuel with hurst floor shift with swivel seats, The green one is a 361 GC green interior 3spd column shift, daily driver, The black one on the left is a 361 GC auto with fairly rust free body. My end goal is which I will use the solid black car with the best of parts from all 3 to make a Black/ with red int,pwr windows,hifi,swivel buckets,3spd floor shifted,355 sure grip, I havent decided on the motor yet. I'm going go 383-4v or 383 crossram or 413 crossram or even a 413 inline 2x4 with max wedge exhaust. Attachments ---------------- image.jpeg (208KB - 397 downloads)

Elite Veteran Posts: 769 | The green one is a daily driver that I just took on a 250 mile trip with no problems. Previous owner had dechromed It I'm going reinstall the trim. Runs like a top . The best part is when I go to the store or pull into the gas station. Even non car people will ask what is that? I always tell everybody that it's a surviving 60 1/2 Impala concept autorama car. They seem to believe that One of the problems of FLs I'm learning is there very addictive. You can't have enough parts cars. First I get the first 61 then a second to help make one out of the 2,then a 3rd !!! Then I decide to make 3 out the 3,so I get a 62 300 2dr for parts car,then I decide that it's too good to part so I start getting parts cars for the 300!!!!! I get 2 63 300s for parts and now have a lines on about half dozen more 61-62s parts cars to drag home! I'm going to be starting a restoration soon of black with white top Fury and would appreciate all the advice and opinions that you guys have to offer. I have owned hundreds of cars over the years but have always sold them along the way. The will be my first attempt to fully restore a car.

Expert Posts: 2635 Location: Minor Hill, TN | A little 411 the '61 plymouth never had a floor shift when these cars rolled off the assembly line back in 61. Some one had that put there its not factory Stick will be 3 on the tree and auto will be the push buttons Edited by 1961plymouthfury 2018-11-13 2:29 AM

Elite Veteran Posts: 769 | I've seen a pic of a 61 dodge with the same shifter.? The original owner was a Chrysler exc in 61. The car has other oddities like max wedge exhaust,and swivel seats ? I spoke with a neighbor in late 50s who remembers playing with seats when he was 5. So they were in there early on. I think I'm going try to get ahold of the original owner and ask him about the car. It's probably just a back in the day hot rod but I'm going to keep the floor shift in and the swivels. Driving the green colum shift manuel is fun,but can be a chore when driving in traffic or hills.

Put some dog dish caps on it, and it would suit me very well. Elite Veteran Posts: 769 | Something kinda unusual about the fury in the above pic is that I was looking in the Darrel Davis sonoramic book and found the serial number listed!! Not as a crossram car but as a 383 4blb car. There were a few police package 383 4blb built and very few fury coupes with 383 4blb. If I read the book correctly there were only 47 coupes built that engine and of that there there were 14 with 3spd Manuel. I haven't been able to find the 383 4blb mentioned in any factory literature expect for police pakage. I've heard that Many of the Plymouth dealers in 61 did not even know about the 383 4v option

Expert 5K+ Posts: 7407 Location: northern germany | In 1960 the 383 single 4v were listed in the ads and mentioned in the magazines. One surprising thing is these obviously didn't have the HP stampings. Does yours?
Apollo 61 |
| ||
Elite Veteran Posts: 769 | No, it has a replacement mid 60s 383 2 blb in it. It also oddly has 62 cast max wedge headers on it.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9681 Location: So. Cal | It could have been a government issue car for a government official. The black color and motor match what they typically would have ordered.

Elite Veteran Posts: 769 | Thanks, l was thinking about this belvedere coupe and it's had a lot of work done to it already, the body is straight but still has some rocker rust and pinholes here and there. What do you guys think of making a Richard petty clone out of it? It would be easy with no trim or detailed interior to do? Elite Veteran Posts: 769 | I had the olds clamshell wagon and this guy was always bugging me to buy it for demo derby. I did not want to sell it. He kept asking what I wanted. I finally said find me a 61 ply to trade for ,and this is what he found!!!!! 61 has solid straight front fenders, solid trunk lid,trunk floor,floorboards, and NO bubbles in rear wheel lips. California desert car. Sun baked interior,wiring problems, Appears to have been center punched hard at gas tank door area. For now I'm going to use to upgrade one my coupes sheet metal. I will put the lesser sheet metal back on the 4dr.
