Expert Posts: 1223 Location: Ramona, CA | I'm working on sourcing the correct carpet for my 1960 Chrysler New Yorker Town & Country 9-passenger wagon. It has black thick cut pile carpet that is the same as used in the 1960 300F. My problem so far is finding the right type of carpet from vendors. SMS sent me a sample of their cut pile and it's thin fuzzy stuff. Their kit is almost $600 (added fee for extending under middle seat). Got the same except sample from Stock Interiors, which seems to handle ACC carpets. I'm probably only going to replace the front floor carpets as the cargo area carpet is still good. There are some other areas that need repairs. Here is a link to the online album of my interior pictures. https://photos.app.goo.gl/QM3qE7ktgzf9FZWq9 Please share your experiences with doing carpets in these cars. Doesn't have to be a wagon although the wagon has it's own challenges. I haven't given the car a deep cleaning yet. I bought it out of Indiana last year after it had sat in a garage for 40 years and then a barn for a few more. The carpet on the floors is actually pretty good except for some worn through spots in the driver's floorboard. I'm also wondering if I might be able to have it repaired instead of doing a full replacement. I do have extra carpet from my 300F that came with it which matches really well. I guess I'd have to be worried about the original carpet backing being too dry and brittle. Expert Posts: 1223 Location: Ramona, CA | First interior cleaning since 1978, other than vacuuming up mouse droppings and bugs when the car got here in November. Looks like I'm going to try and save the original carpeting and repairing the two worn areas. I'll know more when I get the seats and front carpets out. Expert Posts: 1223 Location: Ramona, CA | The floor panel between the 2nd & 3rd seat is raised up on one side for some reason. Need to fix that. (a20200430_124559.jpg) Attachments ---------------- a20200430_124559.jpg (184KB - 242 downloads)

Expert Posts: 1223 Location: Ramona, CA | Pulled the back seat out after finding some parts under the rear carpet. Found more parts and the build sheet for the car. The rear carpet isn't as good as I had hoped. Looks like something was left sitting on the passenger side and it damaged the carpet. I was hoping to find the special order form for the car. Maybe under the front carpet. Expert Posts: 3889 Location: Northen Virginia | wow, this bring so much memories of my 61 New Yorker carpet incursion! Probably nobody noticed that the broadcast carbon copy paper that I never seen before. I truly believed that came one copy for every department. Seems like, It was actually only one piece of paper with many carbon copies that each department peeled of.....Who knows...Something to add to the unobtanium broadcast sheet info in general. My car had one broadcast paper under the seat between the springs and another under the carpet. Also a lot of materials too. Stuff that the workers just dropped there and keep moving not worrying to pick up. Why clean up the trash left there by the trim department? Capet was probably the last stuff installed. The best thing you can do is take the carpet let it in the floor, and using a soft brush, lot of soap & water and brush it very carefully, so the soap goes deep in the fiber. Then find a place to hung it vertically, and rinse it, letting all the dirt and grime go down in one direction. you are going to be absolutely amazing how much dirt is there. Be very careful, the pile loops of carpets are barely attached to the soft base. If you do this place take a picture of before and after, you are going to find a big surprise like i did. Expert Posts: 1223 Location: Ramona, CA | The carbon paper was over the build sheet when I first looked under there. The rear seat was still in the car but I could raise the carpet up to feel around.
