Expert Posts: 3577 Location: Blythewood, SC | How can you tell it's a Belvedere and not a Fury without the trim? I'm not well versed in 1960's.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 403 Location: California | That’s a good question,I was wondering that myself. I’m assuming he’s saying that because it doesn’t have the lower rocker and quarter stainless trim that furys got. But since it’s had the door handles shaved all all emblems removed the lower trim was probably removed too. The ad claims it’s a Fury.

Expert Posts: 3967 Location: DFW, TX | I have no idea why, but (IMO) the '60 Plymouth is the only FL car that works just as well with skirts as without. The continental kit is a bridge too far. And I kinda like the low back glass on the hardtop here.

I feel stupid for missing that! It was staring me right in the face and I didn’t notice it had the smaller rear glass. My eyes were more focused in on that diving board hanging off the back.

Elite Veteran Posts: 1116 Location: CA | It's a belvedere. The trim is one of the few things it had when it was found originally stacked on top of another car in the crush line at the junkyard. Other than that it was mostly just a shell.

I like your profile photo of the 58 Plymouth with the quad lights on. Is it a four door hardtop? It looks like it might be from the side and back window I can see in the photo. I love the color too. I want to find a 58 four door hardtop like that. Is yours a Belvedere? Edited by Suddenlyits1960! 2020-05-21 7:21 PM

Elite Veteran Posts: 1116 Location: CA | Thanks, yep 58 Belvedere 4-dr HT. Misty green/Iceberg white sport-tone. Supposed to be a noir style picture but it still came out looking like a certain movie..

Extreme Veteran Posts: 403 Location: California | HaHa! I wonder what movie you could possibly mean? Man,you’re lucky! I love that color combination. I’ve been looking for 58 Belvedere 4dr hardtop in that color or “Arctic Turquoise”. Bluebonnet blue is also nice. Has she been repainted?

Pete Perhpas you saw it here before? http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=69652&... Maybe the car belongs to Clarence “Lumpy” Rutherford?

Elite Veteran Posts: 1116 Location: CA | It was done to intentionally to confuse people and worked really well. I always laughed. With these cars it's either "christine" or a cadillac.. Extreme Veteran Posts: 403 Location: California | So did anyone actually look at the hood and come up to him and ask “what year is your hotlumpy?”,or see the hood and whip out their smartphone to google “hotlumpy” and read the history of the make? I can see where that could be funny if someone was ignorant enough to think that was a real make. “My grandfather had a hotlumpy just like this when my dad was a teenager”.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 403 Location: California | I didn’t realize that was 20 years ago. Does the drive-in theatre in the photo still exist? It appears abandoned in the finsled photograph.

Elite Veteran Posts: 1116 Location: CA | Sort of.. it's been long out of use but to the best of my knowledge the screen and box office still stands amidst the weeds.. Yeah this car was no recent build and is not currently owned by my friend, I kinda wish it were. Looks like it's in Minnesota and now has a 440 and air bags or something? I wouldn't use a 440 for a cruiser. When he found/put the car together it was literally mostly just a shell waiting its turn in the crusher. 1960's weren't worth a nickel, they still aren't worth much with few exceptions I'd argue. I'm not trying to criticize, they have come up some since then but a popular car; nope. Anyhow he bought it, put in an LA318/3-sp TF trans w shifter on the floor because the dash stuff was missing, a 63-64 chrysler 300 bucket seat interior, the continental kit (which isn't my taste), lowered it with blocks/Torsion bars, painted the thing flat-black (maybe other stuff I don't remember now) and drove the F out of it. I'd bet this car under his ownership saw more use than most peoples cars did in their entire service life. Good times..
