If you get yourself a Mr. Gasket 2082 Air Cleaner Adapter which fits 4 Barrel carbs and adapts 5-1/8 Inch air cleaner to the 4-7/32 Inch carb neck of a 56 WCFB, the world is your oyster. Well, at least you have lots of air cleaner options available to you. BTDT
You might need an addition 1" vertical spacer if there are clearance issues with the choke housing or fuel filter housing.

Location: So. Cal | Was the DeSoto oil bath the same as the Chrysler? I see the Chrysler ones for sale a lot. |

Four bbl air cleaners: 55 Desoto, 56 Desoto, 55 Chrysler, 56 Chrysler are all unique. Different part numbers. Also, I'm presently using a paper air cleaner on my 55 Desoto FF. No spacer, adapter, etc needed. Just measure the diameter of the air horn and then find one matching that on ebay or wherever. I *did* have to make a custom rod using steel stock and a die, since the paper air cleaners are low profile compared to the oil bath. Ron |

Location: So. Cal | Do you have a picture of the different DeSoto air cleaners Ron? The pictures of DeSoto air cleaners I have seen look no different than '55 New Yorker air cleaners. They are a little taller than the '56 versions, but otherwise the same as those too. But I'm not sure if the '56 DeSoto should receive the shorter version or not.
The air cleaner from my '56 Plymouth Fury physically is no different from a '56 Chrysler air cleaner as far as I can tell. I have both of them in my hands. It has a different part number too, but maybe just because it is painted gold. They may have changed the part number on them for internal differences as well. Anyway, I am just pointing out that if you don't care about those small differences, you may not have to wait around for a proper '56 DeSoto air cleaner to show up.
