Expert 5K+ Posts: 7207 Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | The Facebook post stated that someone working on the car, removed the front seat and found the gas receipt. Apparently the current owner of the car didn't know about the provenance. Expert 5K+ Posts: 9904 Location: Lower Mainland BC | . Well 7901 Sunset (at Fairfax) is on the way home if she was driving west to their house at 232 N Mapleton Dr in the Holmby Hills west of Beverly Hills. 7901 Sunset is a strip mall now (my wife and I were by there in February during our "spring" vacation (before we knew about Covid, etc - we left California on March 13th just before they shut things down). The gas station receipt is 6 8 57 so either June 8, 1957 or Aug 6, 1957. She was still playing the "Mrs. Humphrey Bogart" card at that point.

From what I heard she was (for her time) ultra "progressive" :) Her original surname is Perske, and her family was Eastern European European Jewish origin, however, both she and Bogie staunchly denied that they were pro communist. This is a quote from Wikipedia, "Bogart and Bacall distanced themselves from the Hollywood Ten (communist sympathizers), and said: "We're about as much in favor of Communism as J. Edgar Hoover."

Extreme Veteran Posts: 403 Location: California | That’s truly incredible! Given the extreme fragility of the receipt I’m amazed it survived inside the car under the seat all those years! So what’s the full story on the car? Did the current owner who discovered the receipt mention who he bought the car from or when? It’s a beautiful looking car. Definetly something I could see Mr. Bogart driving.

Thanks for clearing that up, I always found this disturbing. The leftist German media you know... they try to make every popular person in history a left wing activist. Recently there was a docu about Elvis and it was more of a BLM docu in which Elvis was the fearless fighter for equal rights.

Expert Posts: 3155 Location: NY & VT | As a matter of fact Sid it is well known that Elvis was a fighter for equal rights. Have you never heard the song he recorded in 1969 by Mac Davis called "In the Ghetto?". He fought for equality throughout his career.
