New User Posts: 1 | Hello guys, and thanks for welcoming me to the forum. My son has a ‘56 Savoy and is desperately seeking a replacement horn ring assembly. On researching the forum I have established that the part number is 1615 653, which is the one with an integrated ring. This design is notoriously flimsy I know, and survivors are not commonplace. However, I thought I’d try my luck in the hope of being able to spring him a pleasant surprise this Christmas. Info regarding any intact examples would be welcome. Condition of chrome plate unimportant. Thanks in advance. Mark E Jones.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9926 Location: Lower Mainland BC | . Be aware, there are four kinds of 56 Plymouth horn ring: These: 1. The "bar": https://www.ebay.com/itm/1955-1956-PLYMOUTH-PLAZA-SAVOY-SUBURBAN-WAG... http://www.ctcautoranch.com/Used%20Parts/Horn%20Rings-Steering%20Wh... 2. The half ring (which might just be a full ring that broke (?)): 3: The Full ring: 4. The "Hollywood": https://www.ebay.com/itm/402492038473

I believe the bar without any ring came on the Plaza only. If you have the broken piece of the ring, you could solder it back on easier than trying to find a complete, unbroken one. All my '56 Plymouths use the Hollywood wheel, and I prefer it to the standard wheel.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 446 Location: Beaumont TX | Hi Nathan, I have the upper broken off part of my horn ring and have been trying to figure out how to reinstall it. Would you just use regular solder and clean both pieces real good and try to make it stick. I'm just wondering how to solder it back in a way that it would hold. The broken part is pretty porous which is good for soldering.

You will need to remove the outer chrome plating in the area you are welding to first as it won't stick to the chrome. Generally, it is best to just have the whole part dipped to remove all the chrome from it first, but since you are working on the backside, you can probably get away with just using local abrasion to remove it where you need to apply the weld. Check out this video for explanation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYixytmc_4Q

Extreme Veteran Posts: 446 Location: Beaumont TX | Thanks Nathan. This is very helpful. I'm sure a full horn ring is pretty rare. People would get mad at someone and push that upper ring real hard and that would be it. I'm pretty sure my dad broke of the one I have.
