Regular Posts: 95 Location: North Germany | Hello, when I bought my 61 NY, the previous owner had front disc brakes installed. The brakes look very good, the stopping power is fantastic - everything is fine. The last few days I have been checking the brakes and taking everything off. There is no manufacturer, no numbers, no marks, nothing. Also on the brake pads - nothing. That is: I could not order spare parts because I know nothing about the brakes. The master cylinder and the brake booster seem to be standard parts. Maybe someone knows these brakes ? Maybe some tips ? The diameter of the disc is 276 mm ( about 11 " ), the thickness is 20,5 mm ( about 13/16" ). That's why I have 15" rims. Thanks Roger (brake1.jpg) (brake2.jpg) (brake3.jpg) (brake4.jpg) (brake5.jpg) (brake6.jpg) (brake7.jpg) (brake8.jpg) (brake9.jpg) (brake10.jpg) Attachments ---------------- brake1.jpg (106KB - 71 downloads) brake2.jpg (80KB - 70 downloads) brake3.jpg (82KB - 73 downloads) brake4.jpg (68KB - 75 downloads) brake5.jpg (76KB - 69 downloads) brake6.jpg (24KB - 67 downloads) brake7.jpg (126KB - 69 downloads) brake8.jpg (122KB - 67 downloads) brake9.jpg (37KB - 70 downloads) brake10.jpg (63KB - 71 downloads)

Expert Posts: 3577 Location: Blythewood, SC | Looks like a Scarebird kit. They used calipers off of a Chevy Celebrity with rotors off of an FMJ car as I recall. They stopped production, but you may be able to find the owners on Moparts.com. They used to be over there.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9681 Location: So. Cal | That's not Scarebird. But I agree that the calipers & pads look to be mid 80's Chevy Celebrity. My guess is it is the same type of kit that Andy Bernbaum sells, or maybe Rusty Hope, depending on how it looks. https://www.oldmoparts.com/parts/g_service_brakes/front-disc-brake-c...

Regular Posts: 78 | In the middle of May in 2022 we talked about the kit Andy Bernbaum was selling. Biggest discussion was the price $1100. http://forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=77381&post... Edited by madfins 2023-03-16 8:04 PM

Regular Posts: 95 Location: North Germany | This is a big improvement for me. The calipers and pads are without a doubt Chevy Celebrity. This is good and the most important at the moment . The rotor is different - I have 276 mm, the Chevy has 260. What does FMJ mean ? For the conversion kit : the kit from Andy Bernbaum seems to be the right one, but I need to disassemble everything again and take pictures of the bracket and hubs. The master cylinder and the lever behind it is exactly the same as in the picture of Andy Beerbaum. Thanks a lot, this was very helpful for me. Roger Edited by Zorc 2023-03-17 5:53 AM
