Member Posts: 16 Location: Lopez, WA | Search did not answer......what do I expect for the cost to rebuild a 1956 Powerflite? Will have to be a professional transmission rebuilder, in the Pac NW. Cannot DIY any longer; no garage, no tools. Have to pay a 'pro'. Are we talking $1500, or $3500, or worse? Ideas?

Extreme Veteran Posts: 353 | As I had mention, the flat rate for R&R was around 8 hour, where do these shop get of charging that much. Parts price are what they are but labour, they have to be standing looking at the parts and have beer. Del

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9911 Location: Lower Mainland BC | . Not exactly the same but I had a 57 Windsor Torqueflite rebuilt for about $2500 CDN and I supplied all the necessary parts including the standard rebuild kit, front pump, screen, internal control stuff and front and rear bands. I would not be surprised that a Powerflite is a similar cost. Details of my Torqueflite install saga, including the rebuild, are documented here: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=73638&... Good luck

Expert Posts: 1207 Location: Ponder, TX | Pat Blais in the Seattle area is the only old Mopar transmission specialist I know of in the PNW. Don't know if he does PowerFlites, or even if he is still working, but if not, he can probably help. Do an online search for his email.

Expert Posts: 3400 Location: Chestertown, NY ( near Lake George) | It took me 2 days, taking my time, I'm old. Lol the Aluminum 727 is much easier than these units, of course if there is a specific problem that can take some time to pin it down. It's the scareness of hard parts that's real issue. On one unit we had to buy a 2cnd one for the front clutch housing on a 59 Torqueflite, got parts out of a 61 Torqueflite. Edited by Shep 2023-04-22 1:23 PM

Member Posts: 16 Location: Lopez, WA | have been told that Pat Blais retired some years ago; google said "no longer doing rebuilds"; no response to emails; looks like a dead end there....waiting for response from JC Auto.....coming up dry around here.....aamco may be my only option, and they already said "nope, nobody here that old...we might do it if you bring it in, but no idea on cost or parts or timing.....we'll get back to you...." Does not inspire confidence..... Edited by Tritone 2023-04-22 5:15 PM

Meanwhile, back in the wild west, my tech at the racecar shop says he'll get the R&R down to 1500 "max", "promise"..... we shall see...... Thanks to all who responded; it may be quiet here for a while as I hand out my few remaining 1000 dollar bills.......
