Had some front end work done a while back and the car has been down for various reasons since. Was under it today and noticed the on the diagonal bar that runs from the front crossmember to the lower A Arm & bolts on by the ball joint they must have had one or more of those nuts by the joint off because it's gone. Replacing it isn't much of a problem, but what is proper torque amount?

"Installation (of the lower control arm strut rod bushing):

(1) Dip new bushing in water and with the tapered
portion toward rear of vehicle, install in opening in
frame using a twisting motion until groove in bushing
indexes properly with frame.

(2) With the cupped (larger diameter) side out,
slide the washer over threaded end of strut. Push strut
through bushing in frame, position outer washer over
end of strut (cupped side in) and install nut.

(3) Tighten nut sufficiently to install the strut to
lower control arm mounting bolts. Install bolts, lockwashers
and nuts, and tighten to 100 foot-pounds.

(4) Tighten nut on forward end of strut to 50 footpounds.

(5) Install sway bar if so equipped."

I always questioned that. Note the picture. There was a change from single bolt to dual bolt in 58-59(?). The 60 dual bolts are only 1/2-20 Thread size, like the wheel bolts/studs, that only receive 65 ft pounds. My guess, the 100 ft p was accidently carried over in the shop manual. I personaly wouldn't use more than 80 ft pounds.

Well, a bit late now! Nothing snapped or stripped, at least so far.
