Many of you know about my late father's 1958 Plymouth Suburban that I inherited with a 318 Poly. Engine was rebuilt around 1968. I believe it has less than 20,000 miles on it. The car sat since 1975 until 2021 where I got it running. Oil pressure was fine. I get it on the road the summer of 2022. Drove it to a show earlier this summer. Oil pressure is good. Go to leave the show and the oil light stays lite and no pressure is shown on the gauge!! Yes, it has oil in the pan. Something to keep in mind, I did that I notice the oil pressure gauge reading a bit lower while driving to the show. Didn't think much about it.
I've pulled the pump expecting the drive tab to be sheered of. Nope. I check the pressure relief valve thinking it might be stuck open. Nope. The O-rings that seal the bottom of the pump seemed to be shrunk a bit. Replaced them. Nope.
Has anyone seen the pin that holds the gear to the intermediate shaft sheer? This is something I didn't check. I was expecting the new O-rings to solve the issue as they were actually below the sealing surface. My next plan is to remove the distributor, and intermediate shaft and make a drive rod to power the pump with a drill.
I'm going to post the link to my car's playlist on YouTube. I've made some videos of me attempting to solve this. Thank you for your thoughts!!

A stuck valve can cause a pushrod to bend and allow the lifter to pop out of its bore. This is usually accompanied by brief valve clatter.

Also, check the pickup tube to make sure it isn't clogged, and any passages that you can get to.

When it happend to me, I was super lucky.  John Tuthill replaced the oil pump and it was good to go again.

Thank you for this information!
The #8 plug looks like it hasn't done any combustion!
I guess the valve cover is coming off after a compression test. I'm guessing that's the cylinder that I'm getting the faster starter sound on! I hadn't even considered this! This would also cause a sudden drop in oil pressure!! Now you've got me excited to get off of work to check it out!
As far valve clatter, the exhaust is currently exiting right from the crossover pipe! Could mask some noise!
Will report back!

This pump has less than 20 thousand miles on it. Did you see the inside of your pump that failed?
Here's what mine looks like.

I believe I may have found the smoking gun! Details in the video. Follow the link.
