Henry:
The rear drum came off when you removed the wheel?  If so then your car has the wrong rear axle.  The '59 rear axle uses a tapered drum and axle with a castle nut holding it alltogether.  It takes a serious puller and lots of patience to get those back drums off.

Question:

If someone changed the drum, and did not have the drum swedged back onto the hub, then the drum would come off without pulling the hub...right?  This is what was done on my DeSoto...which has the same tapered axle.  I know that this was exactly what was done to my DeSoto, cause my husband did this to my DeSoto to avoid paying someone to swedge the drum back on.
