Hello all, if one of you guys have a half decent one to send me I would

anyone got a spare? regards George.

In the post that started this thread, I said I wasn't overly impressed with the workmanship of the reproduction '67 hood ornament that I bought from Emblemagic. I said that because it has scratches -- in particular one big vertical one from top to bottom on the front side, plus some smaller ones here and there. And they're fairly deep -- I can feel them when I run my fingernail over the surface, and I don't think they'd disappear with a simple buffing.

But on further reflection, I don't think the scratches are because of faulty workmanship -- I think they're the result of defects in the original hood ornament from which Emblemagic made their mold. The eagle logo inside the ornament looks great, and in fact the whole reproduction is FAR better than any original '67 hood ornament that I've ever seen available for any price. Even that big vertical scratch is pretty much invisible unless you look very closely. So it was worth the money and the wait.

Having said that, I'll bet a better reproduction could be made. The insert for the '67 hood ornament appears to be essentially a simple dome shape (actually two of them). I don't know anything about making molds and such, but it seems to me that maybe someone who's good at that stuff could just fabricate a mold of that shape rather than taking an impression of an actual hood ornament?

Anyway, George, I'd love to see you take on the project, but in my experience, '67 hood ornaments in suitable condition for making a mold simply don't exist anymore. :-(
