OK. I just checked it, and no one is crazy but me. The retaining ring is
indeed on the front! (It surprises me because it's not very pretty that
way... The splined perimeter seems rather obvious and IMHO would have been
better concealed facing the back, where no one ever looks at the ornament up
close.)
