If your 1960 Imperial is factory equipped with an alternator instead of a generator electrical parts listed for 1961 will work.

Also, I believe that the starter relay is the same for both alternator and generator cars. If this is true, you can go ahead and install the '61 part.

You should check your neutral safety switch before buying anything. It is more susceptible to failure than the relay. You are probably bypassing it, as well as the ignition switch (another part prone to failure) by jumping the relay as you describe.
