IML: 58 rear axle ratios

Hi gang:
I just rebuilt the spare rear axle for my 58 LeBaron and pulled the
original and replaced it with the rebuilt. Both are 3.18 to 1 gear sets,
where does this fit into the greater scheme of things. As far as I have
seen there shouldn't be a 3.18 ratio. Any ideas?
