IML: advice and such..bah!!!

Just a quick note to say thanks but no thanks to Bill for his unsolicited 
praise of my advice today.   Far from being some guru or wizard of all 
things automotive,  its just the time spent in the trenches working in , on 
and around  vehicles for so many years.

Having seen the kind of carnage that well intentioned but uninformed or 
misled people have inflicted upon their cars by doing it themselves ( which 
is generally a fine idea , I encourage diy  but you dont go from diy first 
aid to diy brain transplants in a day ) and similar chaos and financial 
suffering caused by many in my own trade as mechanics, I try to offer common 
sense advice to people when they seek it.  One caveat, nobody was born with 
such knowledge or experience, it has to be learned but its out there for the 
taking if you seek it.

That being said,  I  would like to encourage those people who seek such 
advice to take it with a grain of salt and not be so quick to heap such well 
intentioned public praise on me,  lest it give others the idea that I am 
actually losing sleep over their problems or am concerned that they actually 
heed what I tell them...nothing is further from the truth.

So yes, Billy...you are definitely in the permanent records now and were it 
in my power I would send a note home to your parents.   I am tempted to 
forward any and all other requests for advice to Dick B, but the level of 
respect I have for him and his wisdom expressed on the list prevents me from 
inflicting that upon him.
