Thanks, Hugh, for your enthusiastic
responses. Yes, Hemmings has changed a bit over time, as it now has some
feature articles besides the for sale emphasis. Here's how my car ended up
on the cover of the July issue--
Around Aug. or Sept. of '04, I spotted a request
for West Coast cars for Hemmings publications--Classic Car Magazine and Muscle
Car Magazine. A first time West Coast Editor, Jeff Koch, had been
appointed. The request mentioned tthat Richard Lentinello, the
Editor-in-Chief, would be at Hershey in October at the Hemmings Booth accepting
photos of cars on the Friday of Hershey week-end. We were planning to be
there anyway, so I took along photos of several of our cars with notes about
them on the back of each pic and dropped them off. I met Richard
Lentinello. I was very impressed. He did not seem rushed. He
was really interested in the pics and asked quite a few questions, mostly about
originality.
Around January, I received an e-mail from Jeff
Koch. After exchanging e-mails, we set up March 7th for a full day with
him to photo three cars for resto/drive report type articles. He took photos of
some of the other cars and of us for a "collector Profile" type article,
too. We scouted out and settled upon a suitable photo location.
Pretty exciting and a bit scary driving my car while not far away from the left
front fender, Jeff was hanging out of his car snapping pics while my partner
drove. That's how the driving on the road pics are done. Jeff is an
easy going and very pleasant guy to be with. A busy day but fun and
exciting as well. Fortunately, the sky remained overcast the whole day so
we could fit in the three cars. Bright sun is not good for pro photos, I
was told. So we may see an article in Classic Car Magazine about one of
the cars in future. Who knows? The main office staff has lots of
stuff from which to choose.
In April, Jeff wrote that the back East editors
loved the color of the 60 Imperial and were going to put it on the cover to
highlight an article on 60 to 63 Imperials. I did speak with the
writer. Pretty surprising to read my own statements.

About Hemmings, guess I was expecting that everyone is like me, a faithful
reader and subscriber for around 20 plus years. Even get it delivered
first class so it comes a week ahead so we can immediately go to the C cars for
sale section and check out what's out there for Chryslers, particularly letter
cars, and for Imperials. It's a monthly dream/fantasy experience. A
bit dangerous, too, as we have more than a few cars, way more, alas. Ebay
hasn't made it any easier. I purchased the 60 through ebay. We're
still having fun, though.
